NAUTICAT 321 SPORT INFORMASJON

Nauticat 321 er ein dekkshus seglbåt bygd til svært høg standard i Finland mellom 1999 og 2018.

Skrog

Skroget er bygd i massivt enkeltlaminat glasfiber, på det tjukkaste mellom 25-35 mm. Det er ei fast stålplate for festing av motorfestene. 

Båten har eit omfattande system av langsgåande og tverrgåande forsterkningar som er støypte fast i skroget for å gje maksimal stivleik. Denne byggeteknikken er ein viktig grunn til at båten veg 6 tonn.

Dekk

Båten har dekk i glasfiber sandwich balsa, ikkje teak, som gjev lågare vekt og redusert vedlikehald. Der vinsjar, kryssholt og rekkverkestøttar er monterte, er balsakjernen bytt ut med enten massiv glasfiber eller kryssfinerinnlegg for å tola presset utan at dekket blir klemt flatt.

Alle overflater, inkludert styrehustaket, har ei sklisikker overflate. Ankerbrønn i fordekket. Fire kraftige pullerter, vindauge i herda sikkerhetsglass opphengt i aluminiumsrammer. 

Båten har rekkverk i rustfrie stålrøyr (316 syrefast).

Utvendige teakdeler er ubehandla.

Kjøl

Kjølen består av en glassfiberseksjon som utgjer en del av skroget, dvs. kjølsvinet; derifrå heng den eksterne ballast blybulben på 1,8 tonn. Ballasta er sikra med 8 syrefaste stålbolter i to parallelle rader, og innvendige støtteplater i rustfritt stål.

Sidan Nauticat 321 har dekkmontert mast, går det ei kraftig støttesøyle i rustfritt stål frå dekket og ned til kjølområdet. Denne søyla overfører alt trykket frå masta direkte ned i den solide kjølkonstruksjonen. Ein av kjølboltane fungerer òg som hovudjordpunkt for lynvern, slik at eit eventuelt lynnedslag blir leidd direkte ut i vatnet via blykjølen.

Ror og styring

Roret er eit semibalansert spaderor med finne (skeg). Finnen går eit stykke ned langs rorstammen, til vern mot slag.

Rorstammen er laga i kraftig, syrefast rustfritt stål, dimensjonert for å tåla dei store kreftene som oppstår når båten går for motor i høg fart eller seglar i grov sjø.

Roret har eit kraftig rorlager rett under dekk/styreposisjon, og eit nedre lager der rorstammen går gjennom skroget (rorgjennomføringa).

Sjølve rorbladet er bygd opp av to halvdelar i glassfiber (GRP), som er limte saman rundt eit innvendig rammeverk av rustfritt stål (sveisa fast til rorstamma), der holrommet er fylt med skum.

Båten kan styrast både frå styrhus (med autopilot) og i cockpit med ratt; han blir òg levert med eit feste for ei nødrorkult, tilgjengeleg via ei luke på akterdekket. Det er hydraulisk styring.

Rigg

Båten er mastetopprigga, og har Seldén rullemast med doble, bakovervendte salingar. Masta er 14,9 m høg over havflata. Det er dobbelt fokkestag («solent-rigg») – ytterst ei genuofokk og innerst ei kryssfokk, begge på rull. Båten har ein gennaker i strømpe. Løygang er på hyttetaket.

Seglarealet er 54,7 m2 (storsegl og genua).

Komfort og interiør

Nauticat 321, som andre dekkshusbåtar har fleire nivå under dekk, for at det skal vera råd å ha salong og styreposisjon med utsikt mot sjø og land. Båten har om lag 1,9 m støhøgd under dekk.

Det er salong med styreposisjon og salong på eitt nivå, og bysse, toalett med dusj, og to lugarar på eit lågare nivå. Det er ikkje ståhøgd i akterkabinen.

Innreiinga er i satenglakkert heiltre teak og teakbelagt marin kryssfiner, unntatt byssa og toalett, som er overflatebehandla med lyse laminat; dørk av teakbelagt marin kryssfiner med lyse trestriper, golvteppe i styrhuset, toalettgulv med sluk. 

Motor og framdrift

Båten har ein ferskvasskjølt, tresylindra Yanmar 3JH3E (40 HK) dieselmotor utan avansert elektronikk; kjend for å vera enkel og svært driftssikker.

Framdrift er med foldepropell montert på aksling.

The Nauticat 321 is a pilothouose sailboat built to a very high standard in Finland between 1999 and 2018.

This is a compilation of information (mainly from sources on the internet) about the construction and construction techniques for the Nauticat 321 Sport, which is a version with a deeper keel and higher mast than the standard version.

Hull

The hull is built in solid single-laminate fiberglass, at its thickest between 25-35 mm. There is a fixed steel plate for attaching the engine mounts.

The boat has an extensive system of longitudinal and transverse reinforcements that are cast into the hull to provide maximum rigidity. This construction technique is an important reason why the boat weighs 6 tons.

Decks

The boat has decks in fiberglass sandwich balsa, not teak, which gives lower weight and reduced maintenance. Where winches, bollards, stanchions are fitted, the balsa core has been replaced with either solid fibreglass or plywood inlays to withstand the pressure without the deck being flattened.

All surfaces, including the wheelhouse roof, have a non-slip surface. Anchor well is on the foredeck. There are four heavy bollards; windows in tempered safety glass suspended in aluminium frames.

The boat has guard rails in stainless steel tubes (316 acid-proof).

External teak parts are untreated.

Keel

The keel consists of a fibreglass section that forms part of the hull, i.e. the bilge; from which the external ballast lead bulb of 1.8 tonnes is suspended. The ballast is secured with 8 acid-proof steel bolts in two parallel rows, and internal support plates in stainless steel.

Since the Nauticat 321 has a deck-mounted mast, a strong stainless steel support column runs from the deck down to the keel area. This column transfers all the pressure from the mast directly into the solid keel structure. One of the keel bolts also functions as the main grounding point for lightning protection, so that any lightning strike is conducted directly into the water via the lead keel.

Rudder and steering

The rudder is a semi-balanced spade rudder with a skeg. The skeg runs some distance down the rudder stock, to protect against impacts.

The rudder stock is made of strong, acid-resistant stainless steel, dimensioned to withstand the great forces that occur when the boat is motoring at high speed or sailing in rough seas.

The rudder has a strong rudder bearing directly below the deck/steering position, and a lower bearing where the rudder stock passes through the hull (the rudder pass).

The rudder blade itself is made up of two fiberglass (GRP) halves, which are glued together around an internal stainless steel framework (welded to the rudder stock), where the cavity is filled with foam.

The boat can be steered both from the wheelhouse (with autopilot) and in the cockpit with a steering wheel; it is also delivered with a mount for an emergency tiller, accessible via a hatch on the aft deck. There is hydraulic steering.

Rig

The boat is mast-top rigged, and has a Seldén furling mast with double, swept-back spreaders. The mast is 14.9 m high above the water surface. There are two jib stays ("solent rig") - a genoa on the outermost and a jib on the innermost, both on roller furling. The boat has a gennaker with a dousing sock. The traveller is on the cabin roof.

Sailing characteristics

The sail area is 54.7 m2 (mainsail and genoa).

Comfort and interior

The Nauticat 321, like other pilothouse sailboats, has several levels below deck, so that it is possible to have a lounge and steering position with a view of the sea and land. The boat has about 1.9 m headroom below deck.

There is a pilothouse with steering position and lounge on one level, and a galley, toilet with shower, and two cabins on a lower level. There is no standing height in the aft cabin.

The interior is in satin-finished solid teak and teak-coated marine plywood, except for the galley and toilet, which are surface-treated with light laminate; floor of teak-coated marine plywood with light wood stripes, carpet in the wheelhouse, toilet floor with drain.

Engine and propulsion

The boat has a fresh water-cooled, three-cylinder Yanmar 3JH3E (40 HP) diesel engine without advanced electronics; known for being simple and very reliable.

Propulsion is by a folding propeller mounted on a shaft.
